Panto season is here (oh yes it is!)

Curtains up on Christmas — it’s time for another season of family fun at the panto.

Pantomime season kicks off in the city centre with Santa Claus is Coming to Town, running at the Pavilion from November 25, followed by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the King’s (December 4) and Peter Pan at the SECC (December 12).

But David Hasselhoff and the Krankies aren’t the only ones donning their costumes, as a who’s who of am-dram and small theatre groups grace the southside stage in time for Christmas.

EROS Musical Society kickstarted the season at Eastwood Park this week, and Sleeping Beauty runs until Saturday (November 21).

The theatre group appeared in The Extra last week after an expensive ad banner was stolen, affecting ticket sales — but it’s already a happy ending for EROS, as an anonymous donor offered to make a new banner, free of charge, in time for show week.

Marketing representative Lynne Fyfe told The Extra: “We’re really touched by the gentleman’s generosity — it’s a bit of a fairytale ending for us!”

Eastwood Entertainers take to the Giffnock stage next, for Cinderella (November 24-28). It’s a famous rags to riches story, and the local group promise lots of laughs, boos, toe-tapping tunes and a sprinkling of fairy dust for its 40th anniversary panto.

After that, it’s Runway Theatre Co at Eastwood Park for Dick Whittington (December 7-12) — a Glasgow spin on the boy off to make his fortune in London, featuring the International Purves Puppets.

Glasgow favourites Insideout Productions are back on home turf December 16-22 for Aladdin, with a modern twist. The team behind last year’s hit The Pure Amazing Wizard of Oz promise lots of Glasgow banter and a starring role for X Factor finalist Rikki Loney.

And if you’re in the mood for more magic carpet rides, then head to The Shed December 17-20 for TRAM Direct’s take on Aladdin in the venue’s cosy blue ballroom — tickets £10 (£8 conc) from 637 0778 or www.tramdirect.com.
