Open Day at Locavore

Healthy eating social enterprise Locavore is staging a series of special free events across the south side today (Saturday, October 1), offering an opportunity to see (and taste) locally-grown produce ... including locally-laid eggs.

The free events are part of the UK Community Supported Agriculoture Network Day programme, and two gardens will be open throughout the day and into the evening.

1.30pm Left Field Market Garden – Kirkton Road, Neilston

This is the largest garden which Locavore has been farming since 2014. It has a wide range of fresh vegetables and there’s also a flock of chickens and ducks for eggs.

3.30pm-5.30pm: The Croft, Queens Park Recreation Ground

The Croft is an urban farm built on top of an old tennis court at the back of a bowling club. Here Locavore has a productive demo market garden where people can go along and learn about growing as well as starter plots used for the Grow the Growers programme. Drop in for a look around or lend a hand getting the site ready for autumn and winter.

6pm-9pm: The Veg Shed, 502 Calder Street (Food & Film)

Visit the brand new Veg Box HQ where Locavore packs and stores all its local organic produce. It’s the venue for an evening of short talks from Locavore growers, a foodie film and a chance to give your input on how Locavore can keep growing more healthy vegetables. There will also be a buffet dinner made from lots of the home grown produce and you can bring and share some dishes of your own as well.
