A GROUP of nurses from the Victoria Infirmary are ready to put the fun into fundraising.
The nurses, from the hospital’s high dependancy unit, will be taking on teams from across Glasgow in the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice’s yearly It’s A Knockout charity event.
Their effort will see them taking on a challenging assault course — while dressed in giant, outrageous costumes — and being covered in foam to raise money for the Glasgow hospice.
Staff nurse Jodanna Wong from the HDU managed to sign up colleagues to join her and make the brave attempt to win the event.
Jodanna said: “I heard about the hospice’s challenge through a friend who was telling what a great time she had at a similar event.
“It looked like great fun so I thought we should get a team together from the Victoria Infirmary.
“It’ll be our first fundraising event as a team, so we’re all very excited about it”.
Jodanna went on to explain that she and her colleagues knew people who had used the hospice and they supported the work that was done.
Jodanna continued: “My gran’s friend spent some time at the hospice and it made such a difference to the quality of her life, so we’re glad we can do something to support it”.
The Victoria works closely with the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, with staff moving between the two sites.
One such is Dr Alistair McKeown, a palliative care consultant at both hospital and hospice.
Dr McKeown said: “I am delighted that nurses from the Victoria’s HDU have decided to take part in this year’s It’s A Knockout and raise much-needed funds for the hospice.
“Working across both sites, I see the excellent care that each service provides in two very different working settings.
“The ward staff at the Victoria Infirmary has a high awareness of palliative care and are quick to refer to the hospital specialist palliative care team when patients or families are struggling with the physical, social, psychological and spiritual issues of cancer or other life-limiting conditions”.
The teams will battle it out on August 25 at Glasgow Green.
