A new way to help local residents find jobs on the go is set to be launched.

A Place To Work is a website aimed at smartphone users and has a host of helpful features for jobseekers.

To mark the launch today (Thursday) at the Museum on Main Street, Barrhead, local employers will be at the event from noon-3pm to promote current vacancies they hope to fill.

East Renfrewshire Council and WorkER, the employability services team, are behind the new site, which is the revamped vacancies section of the existing A Place To Grow website.

It has been created to give people a new and improved way to find out about the different employment opportunities in the area after research found that more than half of all job searches in the UK are made from mobiles.

The site will have a jobs board section where people can browse vacancies
and apply directly from the site.

Users can set up job alerts so they can be notified when new vacancies are posted.

Residents can find out and access the range of employment support services in East Renfrewshire.

And there will be helpful job tips, including blogs from WorkER and other support services.

Infrastructure convenor Tony Buchanan, said: “This is a great new service that will be of real benefit to local people looking for work.

“It ‘s another way of making sure people have all the knowledge they need about the opportunities and services available to them.”
