The worldwide project aims to bring up the quality of Italian restaurants outwith Italy - and the award is only give if at least one member of staff can relate to customers in Italian; if traditional Italian dishes make up more than 50 per cent of the menu and Italian wines 30% of the list; and if the chef has trained in Italy or an Italian kitchen.
Owner Marco Giannasi — who bought the historic tram shelter for a nominal fee of £1 — said that receiving the accolade was an “honour and a great day for Battlefield Rest”.
