Maritime exhibition goes swimmingly

THE Ship Ahoy Maritime Heritage Exhibition set sail at Carmichael Hall recently as hundreds flocked to the event – the first of its kind in Glasgow.

Visitors arrived at Eastwood Park in droves to see artefacts from the Clyde River Steamer archive, photographs of Clyde and Western Isles steamers past and presents and pendants from various boats.

Ian McGhie, of the Rouken Glen-based Model Steamer Club, told The Extra: “The show was a great success and we managed to muster 40 models displaying steamers from the 1800s to present day, including models under construction.

“Many members were busy answering the multitude of questions from onlookers.

“The MacBrayne’s bus – from the MacBrayne Circle organisation – also proved particularly popular with its short trips around the local area.”
