Westie abandoned at side of road

A SMALL dog, which had recently given birth, has been found abandoned in Rutherglen.

The West Highland terrier was discovered at around 1am on Saturday in the area’s East Kilbride Road by a member of the public.

It was suffering from a severe, untreated skin condition and was heavy with milk, which meant she had been recently nursing its young.

The little dog has been named Bonnie and she is receiving care at the Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald.

Senior inspector Nicki Scott said: “Bonnie was absolutely terrified when she was found and it’s clear she has had very little human contact in her young life.

“She’s never walked on a lead and she’s extremely nervous of new situations or loud noises.

“Her skin complaint has been left untreated for weeks, possibly even months, and the fact that she is heavy with milk suggests she has been separated from her puppies prematurely”.

Anyone who can help with information relating to the westie can contact the Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
