Turn it off, for Earth Hour

EAST Renfrewshire council has signed up to observe the World Wildlife Fund’s Eart Hour 2013.

In a graphic display of support for people and wildlife threatened by climate change, the council will turn off its lights for 60 minutes at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 23.

ERC environment convener, councillor Vincent Waters, said: “Earth Hour is an excellent way to show the people in power that you want them to do more to deal with global warming and climate change.

“It is now a global event and growing every year.

It is an important step on the road to converting our planet to a low carbon existence.

“I will be switching the lights in my home off for the hour.

“So why don’t you do the same on Saturday, March 23 and do you bit?”

ERC will be encouraging staff to make sure that they switch off lights in their own homes at the appointed time.

Decorative lighting at various sites across East Renfrewshire will also be in darkness.
