Traffic scheme
ROAD safety is finally being tackled in Pollokshields with a new traffic management scheme.
Trouble has long-centred on Albert Drive, Kenmure Street and outside some primary schools in the area.
But Glasgow city council are attempting to solve the problems by introducing new traffic regulations.
Parking and loading restrictions at the junction of Albert Drive and Kenmure Street will be altered.
Double yellow lines on Kenmure Street will be extended on the approach to the traffic lights at Albert Cross to clear the area in front of the stop line.
This measure intends to improve the operation of the junction and provide better sight lines to the pedestrian crossing area.
GCC also proposes to introduce two disabled bays around the same junction.
It will also remove the waiting restrictions on the southside of Albert Drive between Keir Street and Herriet Street to increase available parking spaces.
Local councillor David Meikle said: "The aim of these proposals is to reduce accidents in the area and is part of road safety measures the council is planning as part of East Pollokshields phase two.
"Road safety is a top priority for residents but unfortunately the community planning partnership road safety budget has been cut by 25 per cent.
"This money was used to fund police and land and environmental services road safety initiatives, such as traffic calming, electronic speed signs and so on.
"So we will have to wait and see what the effect will be".
A public consultation on the new scheme finished on Monday with the results due to be published in March.
