Too big a gamble

AFTER complaints from residents and elected officials, a local shopping centre has been forced to remove a gambling machine.

A bingo gaming machine was in place in the main entrance of The Avenue in Newton Mearns, however, with no supervision or age limits, children frequently used the machine.

Jackson Carlaw MSP  had been contacted by several concerned constituents. He said: “I’m very pleased centre manager Michelle McCabe had the machine removed.

“Addictive gambling is a significant problem in Scotland and it’s very important such machines are not easily accessible to anyone underage”.

Newton Mearns community councillor Bryson McNeil added: “This machine was not suitable for a family shopping centre”.
