Three cheers for East Renfrewshire schoolgirls

A TRIO of high-kicking East Renfrewshire pupils are the new faces of the European Cheerleading Championships, this year hosted by Glasgow.

The city will host the event for the first time in June, and getting the ball (or pom pom) rolling this week were Chanelle Houston (14), Demi Newlands (16) and Emma Boylan (16).

Chanelle and Demi, from St Ninian’s high, and Emma, from Woodfarm high, are all members of the Dance and Cheer Academy, and each donned their biggest smiles at the Emirates Arena alongside Glasgow city council leader Gordon Matheson.

The girls will be competing in the summer event, and East Renfrewshire councillor Mary Montague commented: “The European Cheerleading Championship is a major event and the Emirates Arena is a world-class venue.

“So for three of East Ren’s pupils to be invited to help make this exciting announcement was great for them.

“I’d like to wish Chanelle, Demi and Emma, and the members of Dance and Cheer Academy, the very best for the championships in June.”
