The commitments

SCHOOL pupils from across East Renfrewshire spoke out against prejudice this week in a tribute to the victims of the Holocaust.

Representatives from the authority’s seven schools presented commitments — based on what they’ve learned about the atrocities of World War Two — at a Holocaust memorial event at Eastwood park theatre on Monday.

East Renfrewshire council leader Jim Fletcher commented: “It’s great to see each of our secondary schools taking part in the reading of the statements of commitments.

“It’s very powerful to see the younger generation taking a stance against prejudice. Most poignant of all was third year Eastwood high student, Briony Allan, delivering First They Came by pastor Martin Neimoller”.

The evening also featured a short film and lecture, drama piece and cello music, as well as a presentation from two Eastwood High students on their recent trip to Auschwitz.
