Strike hits southside trains
TRAIN services from the city centre to the southside were disrupted on Tuesday as signalling workers went on strike.
More than 30 members of the Rail Maritime and Transport union walked out of the Glasgow Central office at 5.59am on Tuesday morning, returning at 5.58am on Wednesday.
ScotRail confirmed that five services in and out of Central station were affected, including the Cathcart Circle line being withdrawn completely.
Commuters faced further delays on Wednesday, with a knock-on effect causing problems for early morning services.
The union is in dispute with Network Rail over its alleged refusal to stick to an agreed arrangement that vacant resident posts are filled by a senior members of staff.
The latest industrial action followed a 72-hour strike from Christmas Eve to Boxing day, thought to have brought forward negotations which have since fallen through.
Union general secretary Bob Crow said: “RMT has tried to reach a negotiated settlement to this unilateral ripping-up of a local arrangement but unfortunately management have refused to see sense and have failed to engage with us at all since the strike action over Christmas”.
ScotRail issued a statement promising to accommodate as many customers as possible and added that the action was “beyond the control of ScotRail”.
Further strike action is scheduled for March 2.
