Security guard held up outside Lidl

POLICE are hunting for two men after a security guard was robbed on Victoria Road.

The Loomis guard was delivering money to a cash machine at Lidl, in Govanhill, when the pair threatened him with a knife and a hammer around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

They then took a five-figure sum before escaping in what is thought to be a dark-coloured car.

Although the guard suffered no injuries, he was said to be badly shaken by the attack.

The first suspect is described as 6ft tall and of stocky build while the other was between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 6ins in height and of thin build.

Both wore dark-coloured clothing and dark balaclavas.

Detective inspector Joe McKerns, in charge of the case, said: “Extensive police inquiries are ongoing in the community at this time and officers are currently gathering CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on this crime and the two men responsible.

“The area around the store is always busy with both motorists and pedestrians and I am sure that people must have witnessed this robbery take place, or noticed the two men responsible acting suspiciously”.
