THORNLIEBANK residents have been left furious as First Bus has rerouted one of its services along their quiet street.
The number 57A now lumbers along Kennishead Road after the bus group decided to redirect the service away from Drumpark Street.
Resident Linda McGregor told The Extra that the new route present major problems with a lack of privacy, the potential for accidents and a lack of ambulance access to the local surgery.
Linda said: “The street is just not wide enough for the level of traffic travelling along it.
“Another central problem is that of privacy: these are double-decker buses going our street and passengers can look right into our homes.
“In order to keep our privacy, we would have to keep the blinds drawn or curtains shut. With no access to daylight, and having to constantly use artificial light, this could cause depression”.
A group of residents attended councillor Gordon Wallace’s surgery on Tuesday evening to see if he could help.
Councillor Wallace has vowed to do all he can for the neighbours.
He told The Extra: “As residents are suffering the indignities of passengers peering into their living rooms, we must question the logic of adding to the severely-congested roads which already have to deal with a constant flow of heavy goods vehicles from the nearby council depot.
“A tipping point may have been reached with the potentially life-threatening situation that could exist as ambulances struggle to gain access to the surgery in the event of an emergency”.
