ROCCO date for Busby business

HE is one of the youngest entrepreneurs in East Renfrewshire.

But that hasn't stopped Nick Cohen's Busby-based business, PCR Computer Services Ltd, gaining a nomination at this year's ROCCOs.

The Renfrewshire chamber of commerce's annual awards are open to all of its 1,900 members - but PCR has beaten the competition to be shortlisted in the most promising new business category.

Managing director Nick Cohen (19) told The Extra: "I was really surprised and pleased to find out we'd make the top three because I know there are much bigger companies in the Renfrewshire area.

"But something about the application must have stood out.

"The ceremony is on Friday and I'm going to take along my parents.

"They have always been there to support me, throughout developing and setting up the business.

"I'm looking forward to it as I'm sure it will be a great night".

Nick started in business aged just 13 and PCR provides IT support for both domestic and commercial customers.

From its repair centre in Busby Nick and colleagues deal with day-to-day PC problems - and also provide an external IT service to businesses paying a fee.

The awards ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Normandy hotel, hosted by Jay Crawford, programme director of Real Radio.

Chamber President Tom Johnston said "We have been overwhelmed by the interest in the ROCCO Awards this year, we have received a high number of applications and the quality has been incredible.

"We know we are facing challenging economic conditions but it is fantastic to see local companies, large and small, buck the trend and continue to expand.

"We are now down to the 28 finalists from which the judges must pick the 9 winners - and it's going to be tough this year".
