Power cash boost
AN ANNUAL investment of £140,000 from the Whitelees windfarm will directly benefit Eaglesham and Waterfoot.
The annual sum from ScottishPower Renewables to East Renfrewshire council is disbursed to local groups for projects that demonstrate community benefits.
At the local area forum on Tuesday, 17, 943 was granted to Eaglesham's swing park.
The forum itself will add a further 2,563 to update park facilities.
Bill Duguid (72) who chairs Eaglesham and Waterfoot community council, told The Extra: "More up-to-date facilities will make the park safer and less-easily vandalised.
"It's going to be a big improvement for local children".
The windfarm fund will also contribute to a pedestrian-controlled crossing at Craiglaw Avenue and several other community groups including scouts.
The area forum meeting also planned ahead by deciding to invest 5,000 in Christmas lights for Busby Main Street.
Chair Ian McAlpine also reactivated the Mr Diggit scheme which used to provide a regular garden service for pensioners – but now only offers a once-a-year visit.
Councillor McAlpine told The Extra: "We have agreed to attempt to raise the number of visits to at least four cuts a year. Once a year isn't enough.
"The Extra brought it to our attention and we hope
this will be another example of the paper getting things
done".
