Pool closed

SWIMMERS who use Eastwood park leisure's pool will have to exercise elsewhere while it shuts for essential maintenance work.

The Giffnock pool will close from Monday, March 1 and will re-open on Saturday March 6.

Underwater grouting repairs of the main pool and the centre's three smaller pools is to be carried out as well as repairs to the changing village.

The pool's upper landing will also be re-floored and the area outside the male changing area in the action zone is to be re-floored and repainted.

But the action zone will remain open to the public during the closure.

In addition planned replacement work will be undertaken in the pool's plant room in areas identified in a recent six monthly inspection.

And also being given a makeover is Carmichael Hall. It will also close so the main floor can be uplifted and re-laid. This will mean aerobic classes will have to be cancelled between those dates. The hall will re-open for business on Monday, March 8.

Community services convener councillor Mary Montague said the closures would only be temporary and would benefit users in the longer term.

She explained: "We regret having to restrict the public from using our Eastwood pools during this period but it is essential and that we take time out to undertake this maintenance to ensure the facility's equipment is fully tested and working efficiently and safely.

"We apologise to our customers for this inconvenience but our swimming pools at Barrhead sports centre, Neilston leisure centre and Eastwood high school will be open for business as usual".
