Police launch murder hunt

A MURDER inquiry has been launched after a man was knifed in an incident in the southside last weekend.

Gerard Dobbin (25) was found with a serious stab wound after police were called to a disturbance at a party in a flat in Old Rutherglen Road in Gorbals.

Officers were called out around 4.50am on Saturday where they found Mr Dobbin and he was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Infirmary.

Detectives launched a murder inquiry after Mr Dobbin, from Castlemilk, died from his wounds.

Mr Dobbin’s relatives have been informed. Officers are now continuing door-to-door inquiries in the area and will start to review CCTV images in an effort to find out more information.

Detective chief inspector Gary Thomson said: “A young man has died as the result of a violent assault and we are continuing with our inquiries into how he came about his injuries.

“I’m pretty sure the people who were at the party have information about what happened and I am appealing directly to them to get in touch with us.

“We are still trying to establish a motive for this attack.

“We know that a disturbance broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, but it’s not clear exactly what happened.

“It’s possible local residents may have heard sounds of a disturbance and may have something which could assist our investigation.

“Again, I would urge them to contact us”.
