COMMUNITY cops are tallying up the results from a month of action on East Renfrewshire roads.
East Ren officers have been on the beat every day throughout September for a road safety initiative, and 131 tickets were issued in total — 55 for not wearing a seatbelt, 42 for mobile phone use and 37 for speeding.
A further 14 drivers were reported to the procurator fiscal for driving without insurance, six for licence-related offences and another six for drink driving.
Inspector Alan Dickson, of Giffnock police office, told The Extra: “The aim was - through a combination of education and enforcement - to influence driver behaviour across a range of issues, and ultimately keep people safe.
“We not only issued tickets for some offences, but also a range of warnings in relation to offences, from speeding through to vehicle maintenance - for example baldy tyres and defective lights. Drivers were then given 28 days to rectify the defect.”
