CATHCART police are investigating after a 51-year-old woman was seriously sexually assaulted in her own home in Mount Florida.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, December 8.
The victim was later taken to the Victoria Infirmary for facial injuries then released, and is said to be extremely traumatised by the ordeal.
Officers have appealed to anyone in the area of Hampden stadium, Somerville Drive and Cathcart Road around 12.30am.
Detective inspector Kate Jamieson, of the national rape task force, said: “Officers have been gathering and studying CCTV footage in and around the Mount Florida area to identify the man responsible.
“Around 12.30pm, the woman was seen walking outside Hampden stadium towards Somerville Drive, when she was approached by a man.
“The suspect is white, around 30, 5ft 10 to 6ft and of medium build, with short, dark hair. He has a round face and a wide smile.
“He was very smartly dressed and wore a dark-coloured three-quarter length coat with distinctive buttons — possibly cream or white — a dark suit with a handkerchief in the breast pocket and a light shirt.
“We believe the suspect came out of the main entrance to Hampden stadium just before midnight and engaged another man from the party night in conversation, and it appears he may have provided the suspect with directions. The other man is seen returning inside.
“I would appreciate any information from others who were at the Christmas party night who may know the man responsible, or recognise the description.
“I would also like to urgently trace the man who provided directions — please don’t wait for the police to come to you; do the right thing and come forward as you could hold that vital piece of information which could help lead us to whoever is responsible for this terrible crime.”
DI Jamieson promised extra patrols for the area for public reassurance, and asked anyone with concerns to contact police.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
