GLASGOW has been named the eighth best sport city in the world by the SprtsBusiness Ultimate Sports Cities awards.
The honour is internationally recognised around the planet and are presented every two years.
The rankings were selected by an expert judging panel with accute knowledge of sporting events.
Other cities considered for the awards were London, New York, Berlin, Moscow and Sydney.
The reason for Glasgow’s strong ranking are the world-class events being hosted in the run up to the Commonwealth Games
Glasgow city council leader Gordon Matheson said: “Glasgow’s ranking at the SportsBusiness Ultimate Sporting Cities awards is a fantastic achievement for a city ouf our size.
“Such recognition for the city’s work in attracting not only the Commonwealth Games, but a fantastic series of sporting events at the highest level both over the past few years and into the next few, provides a worthy testament to the work done by the council and our partners to get to this stage.
“These events bring a significant economic boost to Glasgow, and to punch above our weight in this way against cities many times our size shows the confidence that international events and sports bodies have in us.”
