Lynda owed cash to criminals, court hears

A COURT has heard that murdered Pollokshaws woman Lynda Spence owed money to criminals.

Giving evidence, Det Con Alexander McEwan told the High Court in Glasgow that he had spoken to Colin Coats (42) who had said that Ms Spence, a financial adviser, had taken the money from the Chinese community.

He added that Ms Spence was involved in obtaining fake passports for Eastern Europeans.

Det Con McEwan told the court that he met Mr Coats when looking for Lynda Spence on June 6 2011.

Reviewing his notes, Det Con McEwan said: “There’s figure that Colin Coats said Lynda Spence owed to various criminals in Glasgow that he said he had now incurred the debts for.”

The policeman indicated that Mr Coats had spoken about figures such as £90,000 and £150,000.

Further, he said: “There’s mention of people in the Chinese community being owed £175,000.

“There’s mention of other well-known criminals in Glasgow.”

Four men, Colin Coats (42), David Parker (37), Paul Smith (47) and Philip Wade (42), are on trial accused of murdering Ms Spence.

They deny all the charges.

The trial before judge Lord Pentland continues.
