THE law on waste is changing for every business in Scotland, as of January 2014.

The new Waste (Scotland) Regulations will be in effect and East Renfrewshire Council is calling for businesses to get ready.

The changes within the new regulations will require all businesses and organisations to separate key recyclable material (paper, glass, cans, plastics & cardboard) from their general waste collection.

Businesses producing over 50kg of food waste per week (around 1 x 120 litre wheeled bin) will need to present it for separate collection. There will also be a ban on materials being collected for recycling going to landfill or incineration.

East Renfrewshire Council’s environment convener, councillor Vincent Waters said: “The new regulations play a key role in helping Scotland reach its ambitious target of 70 per cent recycling of all waste by 2025”.
