PLAY dates ahoy as work begins on a new play area for Rouken Glen Park.

Work on the new play park will go ahead next Tuesday (April 22) and take approximately eight weeks, finishing in time for the school summer holidays.

The project will cost £270,000, stumped up by East Renfrewshire council and the Heritage Lottery Fund joint park improvement scheme, to replace the existing play area.

The new and improved site has a pirates on the open oceans theme, and will include towering adventure climbing ropes, frames, tunnels and zipwire slides for older kids, as well as slides, swings, climbing frames and bouncy areas for very small children.

There will also be areas designed for wheelchair use, as well as seating around the play park.

However, Rouken Glen regulars will have to find another spot for play in the meantime, as the area will be out of use completely during construction.
