Growing well
SOUTHSIDERS have been learning more about the unique garden suburb that is Pollokshields.
Ready steady grow! blossomed across seven different local greenspaces each tended by a different community group.
Lisa Peebles (37) is a Pollokshields community councillor and an administrator at Govanhill baths community trust.
She was responsible for the deck-access flats aspect of the day but thinks the whole event "showcased the huge diversity and great community spirit.
"RSG was made to promote the green element of the area but it has also managed to really demonstrate how unique the place is as all activities were free so nobody was excluded".
Lucy Gillie runs the Leslie Street Greenspace in Pollokshields. Miss Gillie told The Extra: "It was absolutely mobbed. People were very keen, especially when we were handing out plants. Everybody wanted to get their hands on one".
Emma Park (24) of the Black Swan group was visiting to teach routines to children while also enjoying a chance to show off some of her own skills.
Charity worker Danny Philips attended on Sunday with his eight-year-old daughter Havana.
Mr Phillips (44) of Pollokshields, said: "Havana came back having learned more about plants and how to do a front somersault. You can't be more varied than that. It was a wonderful day which brought the whole community together".
Now organisers hope to make next year's festival even bigger than ever to mark the 150th anniversary of Pollokshields.
