Good news for leavers

SCHOOLS in East Renfrewshire are among the best in Scotland for school leavers who go on to enter a training scheme, get a job or gain a place at college or university.

The latest figures published by Skills Development Scotland for 2011/2012 show that 95.3 per cent of pupils in East Renfrewshire go on to positive destinations after leaving school, the second highest rate in the country behind Eilean Siar with 95.5 per cent.

Between August 2011 and July 2012, a total of 1,354 pupils in East Renfrewshire left school with 80 per cent gaining at place at college or university and 12 per cent going straight into employment.

Across the country the figures show that a record 89.9 per cent of pupils left Scottish schools to go onto work, training or education – with a 1.5 per cent increase in the number of school leavers going to university.
