Go Greener receive seal of approval

The Go Greener community orchard had a VIP visitor this week.

Chris Hines MBE, the former sustainability director responsible for the success of the Eden Project and co founder of surfers against sewage, attended the newly-laid Rouken Glen park orchard.

“The orchard nearly did not happen,” said Glyn Jones, chair of Go Greener, “a large tree landed across the temporary site during the recent high winds and resulted in a loss of a significant number”.

Mr Hines went on to run workshops on energy, fundraising, marketing and recycling.

He was particular keen to encourage young people from local schools attending.

He told The Extra: “The future survival of the planet will be in their hand and their generation will develop the answers to minimising the effects of climate change.

“Like the orchard giving young people good foundations and proper nurturing will enable them to flourish in the future”.

Anyone wishing to develop apple-growing skills can do so at a special free training course on March 3. Contact hello@gogreener.org.uk for further details.
