Glasgow Film Festival draws a crowd

THE lights have come up on the Glasgow Film Festival for another year – and according to organisers, it has been the most successful yet.

The festival closed on Sunday with two sold-out screenings of cult director Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, following a record 368 events over 10 days.

The GFF recorded an overall attendance of 39,106 people and a 12 per cent rise in ticket sales since last year – making the ninth year its biggest yet, and rivalling the Edinburgh International Film Festival which sold 40,000 tickets in 2012.

The event included numerous UK and European premières – including Cloud Atlas, scenes for which were filmed in Glasgow – and attracted stars from all over the world, including the director of the closing film.

Pictured are actresses Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan, attending the première of their new vampire flick, Byzantium, at the Glasgow Film Theatre.
