GCC wins award

GLASGOW city council has picked up an award from governing body COSLA.

The authority’s Long Term Conditions Financial Inclusion Partnership project was established two years ago and is designed to help those whop suffer from conditions such as cancer and heart disease.

During its short existence, the project has generated millions of pounds in financial support for its clients.

It has now been given the COSLA Chair’s Award for 2012.

The council also picked up awards from the COSLA Excellence Awards, along with Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire authorities, for bringing about the M74 extension, early and on budget.

Council leader councillor Gordon Matheson said: “I’m delighted that the council has done so well in the COSLA Excellence Awards.

“The work done staff at Glasgow city council is making a real difference to people’s lives.

“I’m particularly pleased the Long Term Conditions project did so well as it is helping some of the most vulnerable people in the city.

“Targeted help for vulnerable people and supporting the economy are both key priorities for the council, so winning these awards is a real boost for us as we continue to deliver on those priorities”.
