CHEFS at Battlefield Rest are swapping pots and pans for a plane next month as they skydive for charity.
Mark Donnelly and Darren Smith will brave the heights for Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity close to the heart of restaurant owner Marco Gianassi, who has lost family members to the disease.
Mark (30) has done a bungee jump in the past — but tackling new heights is a daunting prospect.
He told The Extra: “I’ve always wanted to do it, and to be able to do it for charity is even better. Still, I didn’t tell anyone at the time I signed up, but I’m absolutely terrified — I don’t actually like heights, and as it gets closer and closer, it’s getting more intimidating. But I won’t have a choice once I get up in the air — I need to get down somehow!”
The flying chefs take to the skies on September 1 , and donation envelopes are available at the restaurant bar.
The duo aren’t the only ones tackling new challenges for Marie Curie, as the restaurant will also host a swap over next Thursday (August 29), with the waiting staff cooking up a storm in the kitchen and chefs on front of house duty.
There are a few seats left for the £25, four-course menu, with £5 from every customer donated to the charity.
