Council committee heads out into community

KEY meetings of Glasgow city council’s executive committee are moving in a bid to engage communities.

The city council committee will leave city chambers as part of a new initiative geared at encouraging public attendance – and, according to the council, increasing transparency.

Proposed venues for initial meetings include venues in Easterhouse and Scotstoun, as well as the southside’s Langside College.

It is hoped that the first events will take place in April, June and August this year, with a rolling programme of meetings to follow.

Council leader Gordon Matheson commented: “The proposal aims to increase transparency and raise awareness among the public of both local and city-wide issues of importance to residents and their communities.

“Each meeting will provide an opportunity for the executive committee to engage with communities, meet a range of stakeholders and discuss the proposals for implementing the council’s strategic plan.”
