Chance to be heard

A COUNCILLOR has called for the community to have their voices heard about East Renfrewshire’s local development plan.

Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth Tony Buchanan told The Extra: “It is imperative that we give members of the East Renfrewshire community the opportunity to discuss any issues they may have regarding the proposed local development plan.

“I would encourage residents, representatives from local businesses and other interested parties to come along to our drop-in event and local area forums taking place throughout March.

“We want to encourage feedback on how you see the future of East Renfrewshire and to let you have your say.

“The council’s planning staff will be happy to listen to what you have to say and to answer any queries you may have on the proposed plan.”

Locals will have their chance to have their say and find out more during a drop-in event at Mearns Library on March 19, from 3pm to 8pm.

The event will include display boards illustrating the plan, and maps of the whole council area showing policies and proposals.

The proposed local development plan documents will available to browse and leaflets and forms will be available to take away.

The event is designed to be informal with tea and coffee available, and council planning staff will be on hand to assist in explaining the plan and with any questions that you may have.

An ERC spokesman added: “We would like to encourage you to drop in to find out more about the future of East Renfrewshire and to have your say.”

The plan will also be discussed at the area forums.

With the meetings already having passed in Giffnock, Thornliebank, Netherlee, Stamperland and Williamwood, as well as Newton Mearns South, Busby, Clarkston and Eaglesham, only one area forum remains.

The plan will now be discussed at the Neilston, Uplawmoor, Newton Mearns North and Barrhead meeting, on March 14 (Thursday).

It will be chaired by a local councillor and attended by senior representatives from the council, Strathclyde Police, East Renfrewshire CHCP, community councils and other community organisations.
