Bank targeted in armed raid
ARMED robbers have escaped with a four-figure sum after holding up a bank in East Renfrewshire.
The Lloyds bank on Main Street, Thornliebank, was targeted at 10.35am on Thursday, when two men entered and threatened staff with what appeared to be a firearm.
The suspects, both white and wearing blue jeans and black jackets with hoods, escaped towards Clova Street.
The first is described as around 5ft6, and the second is said to be well over 6ft. Both had their hoods up and tied tightly, covering most of their faces.
Officers are gathering CCTV images from the area and inquiring door-to-door.
Detective constable Gary Gallacher, of Giffnock police station, said: “This is a busy area with lots of shops and flats around, and at this time of day there would have been lots of people milling around.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch with us.
“It may be that you saw the suspects run off or you may have noticed them prior to the robbery and thought they looked a little suspicious.
“I would urge anyone with information to please contact us, as a matter of urgency, on 532 5700”.
