Aye, aye, Captain

FORMER Dr Who sidekick, John Barrowman, is paying a visit to East Renfrewshire.

The TV personality, who played Captain Jack Harkness in the hit BBC sci-fi show as well as the spin-off, Torchwood, will be joined by his sister, the writer Carole Barrowman, on a visit to the Avenue to sign copies of their latest book, Bone Quill, at Waterstones.

The book is the sequel to their first writing collaboration, the fantasy for young people, Hollow Earth.

Michelle McCabe, centre manager at the Avenue, said: “I’m delighted to welcome John and Carole to the Anvenue and know that southsiders will turn out in droves for a chance to meet the ever-popular entertainer.”

The book charts the further adventures of twins Matt and Emily Calder.

John Barrowman said: “Lots of twins have a special connection — being able to finish each other’s sentences, sensing what the other is thinking, perhaps even knowing when the other is in trouble or pain — but for 12-year-old twins, Matt and Emily, the connection is beyond special.

“Together, the twins have extraordinary powers — they can bring art to life, or enter paintings at will.”

The Barrowman siblings will be appearing at Waterstones in the Avenue at 3.45pm on Tuesday, February 26.
