Attempted robbery at post office
POLICE have appealed for information following an unsuccessful attempt to rob an East Renfrewshire post office.
The Thornliebank branch, on Main Street, was targeted by two men on Wednesday evening, at about 5.30pm.
The duo forced their way in, then used a sledgehammer to try to break the security screen. When this proved unsuccessful they left in a black Honda Civic, parked outside, and drove in the direction of Stewarton Road.
While there were three members of staff present at the time, all were behind the security screen and no one was injured.
The suspects are both described as between 5ft6 and 5ft7. Both were wearing dark coloured clothing and balaclavas over their faces.
Investigating officers are conducting door-to-door inquiries and gathering CCTV images. Detective constable Fiona MacKenzie commented: “The men got into their car and drove fairly erratically up Main Street.
“The area is normally quite busy at this time of day and I’m sure people will have been out and about and perhaps noticed the car”.
Anyone with information on the attempted robbery can contact Giffnock police station on 532 5700.
