Life saver donation

NEWTON Mearns shopping centre The Avenue has received a potentially life-saving donation from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

The centre now has a public accessible defibrillator as part of the British Heart Foundation Saving Lives in Glasgow appeal.

The aim of the initiative was to place 100 of the machines in and around the city for emergency situations, and £100,000 was raised to fund it - including The Avenue’s share, gifted by the ambulance service.

The Avenue was chosen as a prime location because of its high footfall figures, and centre manager Michelle McCabe commented: “We’re delighted to receive this donation, which will enable us to help save lives in Glasgow.

“Several centre staff have now undergone training to enable them to use the defibrillator in case of an emergency.”
