Banish the winter blues

BEAT the winter blues and join East Renfrewshire CHCP’s health improvement team for Breathing Space Day.

The annual event takes place on February 1, encouraging all residents to look after their mental health and seek help where needed.

The health team have issued tips to improve your quality of life, including keeping active, eating well and drinking plenty of water.

It’s important to keep in touch with friends and family, and to talk about your feelings – whether it’s with a loved one or through a support service such as Breathing Space.

The service offers a free and confidential phone line for those who are feeling low, depressed or anxious – and events have been taking place across Scotland in the lead up to February 1, to remind Scots to look after their mental health.

East Renfrewshire council’s health and social care convener, Alan Lafferty, said: “Mental health is just as important as physical health and needs to be looked after.

“There are many ways people can contribute towards their own positive mental state of mind at any time of year.

“All these small steps can make a huge difference in maintaining your own good mental health”.
