Gurpreet Kaur, an S4 student at Bellahouston Academy, has been announced as the winner of a creative writing competition held by the Citizens Theatre.

The competition was inspired by their latest community production The Gorbals Vampire.

Secondary school pupils were invited to write their own short horror stories set in a Glasgow location past, present or future. Gurpreet’s winning story, Hidden Faces, was chosen from more than 160 entries by a judging panel including Philip Caveney, award-winning author (as Danny Weston) of the Young Adult novel The Piper.

The six finalists have now had their stories collected into a new set of published short horror stories.

Gurpreet and her fellow finalists were invited to an award ceremony held at the Citizens Theatre where they were presented with a copy of their very own book.

The Gorbals Vampire opens at the Citizens Theatre on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October at 7.30pm, with a matinee performance on Saturday, October 29 at 2.30pm.
