A NEW mountain bike course is set to open in East Renfrewshire.
The 800 metre trail was designed by the creators of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Beijing Olympics courses and will be sited at Aurs Glen in Barrhead.
The course is said to have enough bumps, twists and turns to make it interesting but is not too steep or fast for younger riders, families or less experience cyclists.
There will also be trained coaches on hand to take riders over the course and give them the benefit of their experience.
As one of the fastest-growing sports, a local course was deemed necessary as most trails are in remote parts of the country which are difficult to reach.
The course has been built as part of a national strategy to allow the growth of mountain biking and has already been commended as this year’s national mountain bike conference.
A family mountain biking ‘come and try’ event runs from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, October 21.
Drop-in lessons are free for all ages though parents must give written consent for all those under 16.
