FAIRWEATHER Park has been spruced up and cleaned up, thanks to a community litter pick effort.

The event, organised by Asda Newton Mearns as part of the company’s Big Litter Pick scheme, was attended by East Renfrewshire environmental group Go Greener, council leader Jim Fletcher, staff from the store and neighbours from the surrounding area.

Laura McKenzie, the branch’s community life champion, thanked everyone who attended the community clean.

She told The Extra: “Every store chose a park within their local area to clean up, and we chose Fairweather Park and managed to get colleagues, the eco
group, members of the council and the general public involved — and all were a great help.

“As a small store, we did very well. We spent two hours at the park and left it immaculate with no rubbish or cigarette butts to be seen”.
