SOUTHSIDE shopping centre Silverburn has picked up an award for the cleanest retail destination in the UK.

The retail destination received the best performing shopping centre at property giant and owner Hammerson’s annual service provider awards.

Deputy general manager George Reader accepted the award at a ceremony in London recently, and commended the efforts of the Pollok-based cleansing team.

He said: “It’s a massively proud moment for Silverburn and Glasgow. The work of the cleaning team is often overlooked among other mall activity so we’re delighted for them to be recognised on such a national level”.

The win follows an environmental boost in 2012, when environmental services manager Craig Francis brought the centre from zero to 100 per cent landfill free.

The award has since been handed over to Craig, along with two cleaning operates, Joseph Robson, from Pollok, and Gavin Vance, from Barrhead.
