No safe way to cross the road in Village

Good news is on the horizon for pedestrians crossing this busy road.
Good news is on the horizon for pedestrians crossing this busy road.

Shoppers at Greenlaw Village in Newton Mearns have said that they risk their lives trying to cross the road between stores.

The spine road which runs through the estate has no pedestrian crossing which would allow pedestrians to cross safely between the Tesco and the Waitrose store on opposite sides of the road.

One reader who contacted us, Bryson McNeill, described it as an “accident waiting to happen”. He said: “It was a rat run at the best of times, and despite my attempts to get something done it was like banging my head against a brick wall.

“Now the Aldi store has opened it’s ten times worse. Trying to cross between Tesco and Waitrose is almost impossible. Cars drive at speeds way in excess of the speed limit. It’s only a matter of time before someone is killed.”

The Extra spoke to the factors, Knight Frank, who told us: “We are working with all parties involved to secure agreement for the installation of the pedestrian crossing. While this is taking longer than anticipated, we are making progress towards resolving the matter and would hope to reach a positive conclusion in the near future.”
