The pupils at Pollokshields Primary have been working exceptionally hard in their efforts to be awarded an Eco Flag.

And those efforts paid off last week when Eco Scotland presented the school with its very first award flag.

Pupils have been tending the allotment and are busy planting potatoes which will be enjoyed later in the year.

The school recycles paper, card, cans, ink cartridges, batteries, stamps, and the staff also contribute lots of tea bags for composting!

Pupils enjoyed seeing immediate results on various litter campaigns they organised throughout the year.

Annually Fairtrade and Earthhour activities were held to include families and friends in an effort to promote ecologically friendly activities.

The school grounds have been improved with the addition of planters and flower beds, which are flourishing with spring bulbs bringing a splash of colour on evest the drabbest of days.

Headteacher Carolyn Davren said: “All the pupils deserve a big pat on the back for working so hard to improve both the school and the local community areas surrounding it.”
