MUMS and dads can step aside — this week, it’s time for the youngsters to have all the fun at the third annual Early Years Festival.

The East Renfrewshire fest kicks off on Wednesday and runs until July 7, offering activities for babies and up to the age of nine.

For the tots, there are itsy bitsy boogie and ballet sessions, karate tasters, yoga and puppet-making — and here are a few other choice highlights.

There are Bookbug sessions with a twist taking place at Eastwood Recreation Centre, as rhymes and songs are accompanied by a spot of swimming — a free but ticketed event.

There’s theatre on Friday, courtesy of Hairy Maclary and Friends — based on the book by Lynley Dodd.

Scottish Youth Theatre join the action with How the Whale Got His Throat; a Rudyard Kipling Just So story, running at Eastwood Park and at Auchenback Resource Centre.

And there’s music to the ears at the Sonic Playground in Carmichael Hall — a sensory experience where every footstep fills the space with sound, and another free but ticketed event running Wednesday and
Thursday.

Councillor Mary Montague, convener for community services and community safety, commented: “This is a special year for Eastwood Park Theatre, as it is its 40th birthday — so we’ve pulled out all the stops to bring East Ren families the best possible programme.”
