It’s official — East Renfrewshire pupils can stand the heat in the kitchen.

Budding young chefs from St Luke’s and Williamwood high schools demonstrated their skill(et)s for the title of Eastwood Rotary Club’s Young Chef 2014-15.

The contest, held at Williamwood, gives senior pupils aged 11 to 17 the chance to show off their cooking prowess, and top of the lot was Morgan Colquhoun from St Luke’s.

Morgan will go on to compete in the regional heats at South Lanarkshire College in January.

And it’s not just the seniors who have been cooking up a storm recently, as P6 kids from Mearns Primary attended a special education assignment at Indian Platform Southside this week.

The youngsters and teacher Samantha Oates were given a demonstration on the art of pakora by head chef Neeraj Dhatwalia, before having a go themselves.
