CROSS Arthurlie and Netherlee primary pupils have been learning from their elders.

The youngsters are the latest to take part in Knitting Mania — a volunteer project from Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER), which pairs primary-aged children with older volunteers, developing links between the school and elderly members of the community.

Knitting Mania began last year, when St Joseph’s teamed up with residents at Hawthorn Court to create 1,200 squares as part of a record attempt for Alzheimer Scotland. The resulting blanket doubled the previous world record, reaching 914 square metres.
