Eastwood Gym is up and running following a £160,000 makeover including the latest touch screen technology.

Gym goers can now use high tech cardio machines with flat screens for online apps and TV access, as well as a range of resistance machines, new free weights and an updated training area.

The place has been given a lick of paint and new flooring, and was given the thumbs up by user Denise Smith, who was first in the door following its recent reopening.

Councillor Mary Montague, convener for community services and safety, said: “We have invested in top-of-the-line high-tech equipment at Eastwood. We have more equipment and a new training area with more options to suit every ability.

“The touchscreen technology includes the option to watch TV while training and smartphone connectivity enables gym users to access the internet as they work out.”

The Pacific island nation of Tuvalu benefitted from the refit too, as some of Eastwood’s original gym equipment was donated to the country, teamed with East Ren at Glasgow 2014 as part of the support a second team project.

Tuvalu - midway between Australia and Hawaii - had been unable to establish a gym previously because of the high cost of buying and transporting equipment there, but the Australian High Commission offered to pay shipping costs from the UK.

Meanwhile, Eastwood’s new touch screen technology makes it one of the most high tech gyms in the country.
