Deanpark Nursery’s blast from the past

Deanpark Nursery is heading back to the 70s — and former pupils are invited along for a trip down memory lane.

The nursery, on Deanston Drive, celebrates its 40th anniversary this week, and manager Sharon Downie hopes to track down former friends for one big reunion.

The 70s themed birthday bash takes place on Friday (November 6), with cakes and sweet treats laid on and staff and pupils donning clothes from the disco decade.

She explained: “Deanpark has served the community for 40 years and educated and nurtured thousands of young people during this time. We’d love to invite former pupils, their families and staff to help mark this very special event.

“It would be a great opportunity for ex pupils and staff to reminisce and to reunite with people they may not have seen in years.”

Photos of Deanpark kids then and now will be on display, and Sharon hopes to arrange a picture of former pupils alongside the present day class.

She added: “It would be fantastic to capture our 40th birthday with a photograph with as many pupils and staff, old and new. It was lovely looking back at all the old pictures and it would be nice to think that, in the future, others could do the same with ours.”

Langside councillor Susan Aitken congratulated the nursery on the milestone year, and added: “Deanpark is located right in the heart of Shawlands and has no doubt played an important role in not just providing lots of fun times, but developing and enhancing thousands of young pupils’ key social skills.

“To invite those who have had a connection to the nursery over the years is a great idea, and I hope they receive a terrific turnout on the day.”
