Woman assaulted on Shawlands street

POLICE are investigating after a woman was indecently assaulted on a Shawlands street.

The 26-year-old was returning home from a night out at around 2.10am on Sunday (August 12). She had stopped at a chip shop on Kilmarnock Road, and then walked further along the road when she noticed a man following her.

As the woman turned on to Coustonholm Road, she heard someone running behind her and was then grabbed and attacked.

The man ran off towards Tassie Street after the incident, while the victim was helped by two women on the street, before making her way home and contacting the police.

She described her attacker as white, stocky, aged between 25 and 28 and around 5ft7. He has curly ginger hair and was wearing a blue and grey t-shirt with white writing on it.

Detective constable Peter Paterson said: “A young woman has been left extremely distressed by this incident.

“Initial enquiries have revealed that two women came to the aid of the victim, and I would like to appeal to these two ladies to please get in touch with us. They may have information which could assist our inquiry.

“I am also appealing to anyone who saw a male fitting the description around the time of the attack near Kilmarnock Road, or who saw a man running away in Tassie Road, to contact me as soon as possible”.

He added that enquiries are ongoing and that officers are reviewing CCTV footage – meanwhile, anyone with further information can contact Gorbals police office on 532 5300.
